Induction Banquet


On April 23, 2017 The Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame, Berks County Chapter inducted the following individuals into the HOF: Patti (Wanner) Smith, Dr. Harold Slemmer, Bob Stebbins, Rose (Gilmore) Skepple, Mitch Gerhart, Kirk Sanocki, David Gilmore, and Rick Kelley. Also honored were the West Reading state basketball championship teams from 1959, 1960, and 1961 and presented with the Award of Distinction was Dion Crupi. David Gilmore and Rose Skepple are the first two brother/sister elected into the HOF in the same year.

Among those honored at the DoubleTree on April 23, 2017 are, second from the left, Dion Crupi, Award of Distinction recipient, and from left, HOF inductees Patti (Wanner) Smith, Dr. Harold Slemmer, Bob Stebbins, Rose (Gilmore) Skepple and, accepting for her late husband Mitch Gerhard, Sandra Gerhart.

The West Reading state basketball championship teams from 1959, 1960, and 1961 were also honored. Members from those teams include, front row from left, Daniel DeCarlo (1960-61), Anthony Paolino (1960-61), Edward Goodwin III (1959-60), Ricardo Scalese (1959) and Leon Cronrath (1961); back row from left, Jack Moyer (1959-61), Edward Kuhn, Jr. (1959), Dr. Edwin Wolf (1961), Richard Sherry (coach 1960-61), Hans Hass (1959-60), Phillip Bansner (1961) and James Cremer (1960). Not pictured are Keith Frye (1961), Dennis Becker (1959), Ronald Harleman (1960-61), James Walker (1959) and Robert Wheeler (1959-60).
